Inmate Who Escaped Near Littlerock Arrested in Whatcom County

The 32-year-old Cedar Creek Corrections Center inmate who escaped by going under a fence over the weekend has been apprehended in Whatcom County, according to the Department of Corrections. 

Garrett Stephen Young was arrested by members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offender Task Force, which is led by members of the U.S. Marshals, along with the Department of Corrections Northwest Community Response Unit.

The arrest occurred at about 10 a.m. in the Bellingham area. 



“Young was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped using tactical techniques by law enforcement and was taken into custody without incident,” according to a news release. 

Young had been a minimum custody inmate at the Cedar Creek Corrections Center north of Rochester. He was being held in a gymnasium overnight due to COVID-19 safety measures.

Young had a release date of Feb. 2, 2024, for convictions from Skagit County for first-degree theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, burglary and attempting to elude.
