In Loving Memory of Verna Lee Buchanan

Posted

Verna Lee Buchanan, 69, passed away peacefully at Providence Centralia Hospital on Dec. 19, 2022.

Verna was born on Nov. 22, 1953, in Denver, Colorado to Richard (Dick) Richards and Louella (Wally) Richards. She was raised in Centralia, Washington with siblings she adored. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years John Buchanan, her only daughter Sarah (Cameron) Turtle, sister Melanie (Doug) Reichert, and brother Rick (Patty) Richards.

Verna was a radiant, caring and strong-willed woman who deeply loved her family and friends. She had a thriving early career at AT&T and raised a beautiful family with John in University Place, Washington. Verna sincerely cared for others and continually gave more to others than to herself. She was a master Christmas cookie baker, adorer of horses and oldies music, an avid lover of sweets, and once felled a full-grown evergreen tree by herself with a chain saw. You will never find a more beautifully hosted holiday event than one by Verna as she made every effort to make everything special. She loved Hawaii, steak and asparagus, corn on the cob, her mother’s oatmeal and pasty pies, anything cooked by her sister, and her many animals.

Her empathy, love for family, work ethic and desire to give her daughter the world will be her legacy.

Donations to the Humane Society of the United States in her honor would be greatly appreciated.

There will be a celebration of life held at the end of 2022.
