Toni Louise Sturdevant (Newgard), 87, passed away Sept. 22, 2025. She was born in Chehalis, Washington, on May 5, 1938, and remained devoted and deeply rooted to the community in Lewis County throughout her life.

Toni raised three children as a single parent. Her quiet strength, dependable spirit and enduring love will forever remain. She met the love of her life, Cub Sturdevant, in 1978. They married in 1993 and enjoyed life to the fullest until his passing in 2003.

For years, she served in several positions at Evergreen Savings and Loan. She especially thrived as head teller, servicing the customers. She made many long lasting relationships with her co-workers and customers. Her warm smile, attentive service, dependability and commitment to Evergreen were well received by her customers, and she enjoyed it, even if it meant balancing to the penny, which often kept her working past 5 p.m. Later in her career, she also contributed her customer service talents to KELA and Centralia General Insurance Agency.

Toni was an active member of the Mount St. Helens Patchwork Quilters Club, where she found joy and friendship among fellow quilting enthusiasts. The group’s quilt retreats were an annual tradition filled with creativity, camaraderie and fond memories for Toni. Her quilting craftsmanship touched many family members and friends, and her creations will be treasured for generations.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Mark (Tedi) Curry of Winlock, Washington; Julie (Keith) Clevenger of Raymond, Washington; Jena Curry of Bellingham, Washington; and stepdaughter, Sandi McLean of Parksville, British Columbia. Her life continues through numerous grandchildren spanning five generations.

Toni was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Cub” Sturdevant; her parents, E.R. and Ruth Newgard; her brother, Robert R. Newgard; and her sister, Shirley (Newgard) Stedham.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the loving and caring staff at Curtis Hill Manor Adult Family Home and to the staff of Assured Hospice and Palliative Care of Centralia.

A graveside memorial service will be held Oct. 17, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Claquato Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at the V.R. Lee Community Building at Recreation Park in Chehalis.

Toni’s life was marked by resilience, kindness and quiet strength. Her memory will remain a source of comfort to all who knew and loved her.
