We lost a true gem on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025. Marian Moon, of Pe Ell, Washington, passed away peacefully at the age of 102-and-a-half
Marian was born to Bill and Eva Turner on June 24, 1922. She grew up in Pe Ell alongside her four sisters and two brothers, one of whom was her twin. She met and married Jess Moon, and they settled down in the Curtis area, raising two daughters, Beverly and Alice.
Jess and Marian were members of the Eagles and enjoyed their time there socializing with friends. At home, they always had a couple of mules and a large garden to tend to. Marian worked as a dietician and retired from St. Helens Hospital.
In 1993, Marian moved back to Pe Ell. By this time, she was known as “Grandma Moon” to most people. Many weekends, she would drive to Chehalis to sing karaoke and dance at the Eagles. On her way home, she would often stop by the Pe Ell Pub to sing some more.
While living in Pe Ell, she gardened, rode her scooter around town, attended Sunday services at the Methodist church and worked on sewing projects. Her hand-tied rugs and colorful quilts were hot commodities at the family Christmas parties.
Marian is survived by her daughter, Beverly, of Napavine; her son-in-law, Sam (Alice), of Pe Ell; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
