Judy Hitchcock (Martha Judith Matney-Hitchcock) of Chehalis passed away Jan. 16, 2025 at the age of 86. Judy was born in Missoula, Montana, Dec. 30, 1938. She was the seventh of 10 children. Her family moved to the Napavine-Winlock, Washington area in 1951, when she was 13 years old. She attended school in Napavine. She married Oscar “Lonnie” Hitchcock on Dec. 24, 1955, just before her 17th birthday. They divorced in 1976. She gave birth to twin boys, Doug and Lonnie, at 18 years old, in 1957. She had a third son, Mike, in 1959.

She went back to school and was awarded her high school diploma from Centralia College March 19, 1970. She also attended accounting and tax preparation courses in the early 1970s.  She then worked in bookkeeping and income tax preparation through the 1970s.  In 1980, she opened her own business, J Hitchcock Tax Service, in Chehalis. She continued taking tax courses at St Martin’s college, Fort Steilacoom Community College and the University of Washington. Judy was a member of the National Association of Tax Consultants, National Association of Enrolled Agents, and Washington State Tax Consultants. After a total of 42 years working in tax consulting, bookkeeping and payroll preparation, she sold her business and retired in 2014.

Judy had a strong faith in Jesus and attended church every Sunday. She was a good example of a Christian, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year! She made regular donations to charitable causes. She enjoyed taking care of her many outdoor plants, traveling and spending time with her children, grandkids, great-grandkids and friends.

Judy is survived by one sister, Ruth Matney-Erickson; her sons and their wives, Doug and Joan, Lonnie and Carmen, Mike and Jane; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at Newell-Hoerling’s Mortuary in Centralia, Washington, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m., 205 W. Pine St., Centralia, Washington.

In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to one of these children's charities: St Jude Children's Hospital, St Labre Indian School (Ashland Montana) or Shriners Children's Hospital.
