Howard Jean Wamsley passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by family on March 3, 2023.

Howard was born to Roy and Mable Wamsley on July 13, 1936, in Chehalis, Washington. After graduating from high school in Onalaska, Washington, Howard spent six years in the Marines. After leaving the Marines, he worked as a hooktender and timber faller in Alaska and throughout the Pacific Northwest. After coming back to Lewis County, Howard dedicated the remainder of his career as a timber faller, spending time in the place he loved most, the woods. Even in retirement, Howard continued to be involved in the timber industry by sharpening chains for local loggers and splitting firewood.

Howard and his wife of 54 years, Carole, raised three children in Morton, Washington, sons Brian and Dale, and daughter, Janet. All three children married and stayed in the local area allowing Howard and Carole to be greatly involved in the raising of their four grandchildren and great-grandson as well. Howard was known to his family by many endearing names, including Grandpa, Papa and Papa Howie. Howard truly loved his family and will be greatly missed by all of them.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo Wamsley; and son, Dale Gilk.

Howard is survived by his wife, Carole (Rogers) Wamsley; son, Brian (Kimberly) Wamsley; daughter, Janet (Greg) Norris; brother, Garry Wamsley; sister, Patty Edge; grandchildren, Derick Gilk, Carlie (Rondal) Womack, Lucie Wamsley and Hayden Wamsley; and great-grandson, Leonard Womack.

The family would like to thank Fir Lawn Funeral Chapel for their care and services.
