Barbara (Young) Boohm passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 76 at Magnolia Adult Home in Seattle, Washington.
She was born on Nov. 14, 1948 in Seattle to Herbert and Keitha Young. All of her childhood years were spent living in Seattle. She graduated from Queen Anne High School and then went on to graduate from Seattle Pacific University with her teaching degree and completed her master’s in education before retiring.
Barbara began her teaching career in Mossyrock, Washington. Soon after, she received a teaching position in Tenino, where she met her husband, Phil Boohm, who was a teacher in Tenino. They were married in 1976. She had a full-time teaching contract with Tenino School District starting in 1977 and retired from Tenino in 2003.
Barbara and Phil became parents on July 4, 1983, when Carolyn Renee Boohm was born. Carly was a true blessing to her parents.
Barbara and Phil lived in Tenino until 2008, then moved to Chehalis to enjoy their love of golf. Barbara had a wonderful time with her golf pals; she would say, “more laughs than golfing.” Barbara enjoyed years of friendship with her Tenino Book Club friends, many of whom had children all of the same age and were in school together. After Barbara retired, she joined her teaching team of retired pals and formed the Beach Buddies. She participated in years of beach fun and late-night story sharing in cabins.
Barbara moved from their Newaukum Golf Course home to Woodland Estates in 2015, until moving back to her childhood area in Seattle in 2024.
Barbara had been an active member of her home church, Tenino Presbyterian, until moving to Chehalis.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Keitha Young; her husband, Phil (2011); and her sister, Kathryn (Alaska, 2015).
She is survived by her two brothers, Robert Alan Young and Mark Young of Seattle; stepsons, David Boohm and Joe Boohm of Oregon; two step-grandsons, Tyler Boohm of Oregon and Michael Boohm of Florida; one great-granddaughter, Carter of Florida; and sister-in-law, Peggy (Boohm) Cole of Oregon.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled on Aug. 16, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Barbara’s home church, First Presbyterian Church in Tenino, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to charities of your choice in Barbara’s name.
