Hoff Records Highest Pole Vault Clearance in Class 2A at Shaner Invite

Beating his previous best mark for the fourth time this season, W.F. West junior Lucas Hoff cleared 14 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault Friday afternoon at Tumwater for the Shaner Invitational. 

That mark is the highest in Class 2A this season, and the fourth-best clearance in the state, regardless of classification. 

Hoff also finished second in the high jump, clearing six feet, and fifth in the javelin (141 feet, 6 inches). 

Elsewhere on the field for W.F. West, Caleb Busse finished fourth in the discus (139 feet, 10 inches), and on the girls side Amanda Bennett won the javelin (120 feet, 3 inches), with Morgan Rogerson just behind to finish second at 102 feet, 9 inches. 

Bennett also finished third in the long jump (14 feet, 10.75 inches), and Shelby Hazlett (7 feet, 6 inches) and Mercedes Ricks (7 feet, 6 inches) finished third and fifth, respectively in the pole vault. 

Tumwater finished second as a combined girls and boys team on their home track, with Annabelle Clapp earning a “Female Athlete of the Meet” honor. 

Clapp finished first in the 400 (58.76), first in the 800 (2:25.06), was on the winning 4x400-meter relay (4:09.23) with Reese Heryford, Cassidy Hedin, and Ava Jones, and finished second on the 4x200-meter relay (1:45.65) with the same group. 



For the boys, Christian Schlecht finished third in the 100 (11.52), and Josh Schlecht finished fourth in the 400 (52.65). Reis Howell finished second in the 800 (2:00.37), and John Hoffer finished first in the 3200 (9:43.13) and second in the 1600m (4:19.05). Jayden Thomas finished third in the 110m hurdles (15.77) to round out track events for the boys. 

Dane Iverson finished third in the shot put at 46 feet, 5 inches, Thomas won the high jump with a 6 foot, 2 inch clearance, David Malroy took fourth in the long jump (20 feet, 6 inches), and Aaron Paul took third in the triple jump (38 feet, 9 inches). 

For the girls, Jones won the 100 and 200 in 12.95 and 26.36 for a standout performance in sprints. 

Centralia’s Devin Harrison finished fifth in the 1600 (4:36.28) with a personal best effort, and took sixth in the 3200 with another personal best in 10:03.25. David Daarud took sixth in the shot put with a PR 43 feet, 11 inches, and for the girls Alayna Mcgregor took fifth in the javelin with a personal best 100 feet, 1 inch throw. 

Rochester was led by Jack Dane’s second place finish in the javelin (147 feet, 7 inches), and Emily Weddle’s first place finish in the shot put (33 feet, 8.75 inches) and fourth place finish in the discus (100 feet, 6 inches). 

Finally, Black Hills has a couple of standouts. Liam Wall took second in the discus with a personal best 158 feet, 2 inch throw, and Ashley Harris took first in the discus (105 feet, 2 inches) and second in the shot put (33 feet, 3.25 inches) for the girls.
