Battling through the consolation bracket after a first round loss, W.F. West’s top doubles pair ended up coming home with a trophy at the 2A State Boys Tennis Championships in Seattle over the weekend, finishing eighth in the doubles tournament.

The pair lost their first matchup in three sets before winning two straight loser-out matches in straight sets to stay alive and make the trophy round.

Unfortunately, the Bearcats couldn’t win their final match in the fifth-eighth game, settling for eighth in the state.

Elsewhere, Aaron Boggess of W.F. West made state in the singles bracket, and lost his first matchup before winning his second match in the consolation bracket in straight sets to stave off elimination before dropping out of the singles tournament on the second day.

Black Hills’ Josh Do lost both of his state matchups in straight sets, as well.
