Brooklyn Sandridge scored 17 points and Onalaska’s defense shut down Winlock in a 46-26 win Thursday in girls basketball action in Winlock.
Callie Lawrence added 10 points for the Loggers, who went 21 of 55 (38%) from the field.
Addison Hall led Winlock with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
“We were unprepared and out-coached,” Winlock coach Tori Nelson said. “I didn’t have them ready for a press and that took its toll. Too many turnovers, and the wheels started to come off when the panic set in.”
The Cardinals attempted just 27 shots in the loss.
“We won’t win many ball games shooting 27 shots,” Nelson said. “(Onalaska) came ready to play. They shot much better than they did the night before. (First-year head coach) Alana (Olson) has them looking good.”
Winlock (1-1) hosts Pe Ell on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Onalaska (1-1) hosts Toledo on Wednesday.
Napavine held Toutle Lake to single-digit scoring in every quarter for a 38-25 home win Thursday in 2B girls basketball action.
Grace Gall led the Tigers with nine points and added seven rebounds, and provided a big spark with her shooting in the second and fourth quarters, Napavine coach Shane Schutz said.
Dani Tupuola grabbed 13 rebounds and had seven steals.
“We looked rusty. We’re still trying to get back into that basketball mindset,” Schutz said. “I thought the girls played hard and competed. I was proud of our defense.”
Keira O’Neill added 10 rebounds and five points. Vannie Fagerness scored seven and Natalya Marcial added six.
Napavine forced 24 turnovers and held Toutle Lake to 22% shooting (8 of 36).
Napavine (1-1) plays at Rainier on Wednesday.
Mossyrock started its season with a bang on Thursday, drubbing Three Rivers Christian 61-11 in 1B girls basketball action.
Hailey Brooks led the Vikings with a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double. Payton Torrey added eight points, five steals and four assists.
“We came out strong, played super aggressive, shared the ball and ran the court,” Mossyrock coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “It was a really good first game, but we definitely see some things we can work on. But overall it was a good first game to get the season going.”
Gracie Lovan added eight points and Jade Padrick chipped in seven for Mossyrock.
Mossyrock (1-0) hosts Naselle on Saturday.
Pe Ell was playing in its third-straight game and the effects finally took their toll in a 34-25 home loss to Willapa Valley.
The Trojans had come back from a 19-point deficit on Wednesday night to beat Naselle.
“My girls were pretty dead on their feet tonight, after last night’s game,” Pe Ell coach Danny Cox said. “Tonight, they finally looked at me, like, ‘We’re tired.’”
Charlie Carper led the Trojans with 11 points, while Annika Mason chipped in six.
Cami Swartz led Willapa Valley with 17 points.
“They looked good,” Cox said of the Vikings. “They take some nice shots and get some nice looks inside. They did pretty well.”
Pe Ell (2-1) plays at Winlock at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
