Free Chehalis Music in the Park Series Boasts All Country Headliners This Year

Chehalis’ annual Music in the Park Series announced its lineup for this summer and, for the first time, all the headliners are country artists. In addition, country singer Ty Herndon is coming back for the second year in a row.

“Normally I don’t have someone back the following year, but we were going to do at least two (country acts) because of our partnership with KMNT,” said Paul Beattie, who books the bands for the City of Chehalis Music in the Park Series every year. “So we had the first two and I was looking for a third one, when Ty Herndon’s people called me and asked if we had a date.”

The 2019 Chehalis Music in the Park Series is a free concert series at Recreation Park that takes place over three Friday nights every summer. The first performance will be Ty Herndon on July 12. Headliners Bryan White and Doug Stone will perform the following Fridays. This is the first year the series will have exclusively country headliners.

“These are legitimate country stars coming in to perform,” Beattie said. “We said ‘eh it’s going to be a bit different this year anyway.’”

Beattie said that Ty Herndon is by far the largest commercially-successful performer the series has ever brought in.

“As far as attendance, it was clearly our best Music in the Park,” said Beattie, adding that there were anywhere from 1,200 to 1,500 people who came to see Herndon last year.

On July 19, Bryan White will perform. White has four No. 1 hits and 16 charted singles, according to a Facebook post from Chehalis Music in the Park Series 2019. He also sang a duet with Shania Twain in “From this Moment On.” Randy Linder will open this show.

The final Friday, on July 26, Doug Stone will headline. Stone has eight No. 1 hits and 24 charted singles. Olson Brothers will open the show with their own original country music.

Music in the Park will begin one week early this year, due to planned construction work at Recreation Park. Sponsors for the show include the City of Chehalis, Callison’s, the Centralia-Chehalis Chamber of Commerce, ABHS, KMNT and The Chronicle.

“The name of the event is ‘Music in the Park,’” Beattie said. “That’s what it is. We don’t have blow-up toys for the kids, we don’t have musicians or clowns. It’s three hours of music on a summer night. … My goal for this show when we bring in people is (for the audience to ask) ‘How the hell did they get this person to come to Recreation Park on a portable stage?’”
