Football First-Round State Matchups

The WIAA released its state football brackets for all classifications Sunday afternoon.

The Chronicle has seven teams in its coverage area headed to state: Winlock, Napavine, Onalaska, Toledo, Tenino, W.F. West and Tumwater. 

Winlock will be making its first trip to state since 2002, and will open against No. 6 DeSales in the opening round. The winner of that matchup takes on No. 3 Quilcene. 

In the 2Bs, undefeated Napavine will take a first round bye and then host the winner of No. 7 Goldendale and No. 10 Forks. No. 5 Onalaska just missed on a bye, and will play No. 12 River View. The winner of that matchup will take on No. 4 Lind-Ritzville/Sprague. Rounding out the 2Bs, No. 9 Toledo will take on No. 8 Davenport in the first round. 

On the 1A side, Tenino, in its first trip to state since 2013, was awarded the No. 6 seed and will face No. 11 Freeman

In 2A, top-ranked Tumwater is the No. 1 seed and will face No. 16 East Valley of Spokane. W.F. West, which is coming off a 21-7 win over Mark Morris at districts, is the No. 10 seed and takes on No. 7 Prosser.

1B: No. 11 Winlock vs. No. 6 DeSales 



2B: No. 2 Napavine (10-0) vs. the winner of No. 7 Goldendale and No. 10 Forks

2B: No. 5 Onalaska (5-5) vs. No. 12 River View

2B: No. 9 Toledo vs. No. 8 Davenport

1A: No. 6 Tenino vs. No. 11 Freeman

2A: No. 10 W.F. West vs. No. 7 Prosser

2A: No. 1 Tumwater vs. No. 16 East Valley (Spokane)
