Five-Run Sixth Sinks Loggers in Consolation Bracket

Leading 4-1 heading into the sixth inning, the Onalaska baseball team was just six outs away from a regional ticket.

But a five-run burst from Ilwaco in the bottom of the sixth, and the Loggers stranding the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, spelled doom for Ony in a 6-4 defeat Tuesday in South Bend.

The loss means the Loggers season is over, one win shy of a regional bid.

Jeremy Larson got the start for Ony on the mound, pitching 5 ⅓ innings with six earned runs on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. The starter had a strong start until running into some trouble in the sixth inning. Lethon Fitch relieved him to get two outs, allowing one hit and striking out a batter in ⅔ of an inning.

At the plate, the Loggers built up a lead thanks to a two-RBI effort from Dominic Serl on a 2 for 4 day, and Tuff Lyons 2 for 3 line with an RBI. Ethan Cameron added a 2 for 4 line with a run scored.

The Logger seniors to play their final game in purple were: Larson, Fitch, Cameron, and Serl.
