Olympia area fire crews and local law enforcement responded to a blaze at a long-vacant former restaurant Sunday afternoon.

The fire crews and police were dispatched to the South Pacific restaurant at Custer Way and Capitol Boulevard, a Thurston County dispatcher said. The fire was reported about 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

South Pacific, a former Cantonese-style restaurant, has been closed for about 10 years.

Roads were closed in the area — Custer Way at Cleveland Avenue, Capitol Boulevard at E Street and Custer Way at Boston Street — according to the dispatcher. The roads were still closed as of 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Tumwater fire, Olympia fire, Lacey fire and McLane/Black Lake fire departments responded to the scene.

Tumwater police Lt. Jen Kolb said a detective responded to the scene and was trying to find a witness. The fire is under investigation, she said. A fire investigator also will be called to the site of the fire to determine the cause and origin of the blaze, but she was unsure about the timing of the visit, Kolb added.

The Olympian has left a message for Tumwater fire through Thurston County dispatch.
