The Big Hanaford power plant in Centralia suffered a fire last week that was contained and suppressed by the building’s fire extinguishing system.

The fire reportedly began in the plant’s coal storage and conveyor belt system, according to Riverside Fire Authority, which responded to the incident just 8:15 p.m. on May 18. The Chehalis Fire Department, the West Thurston Fire Authority and the South Thurston Fire Authority also responded. The fire reportedly spread to an adjacent room before it was contained. No injuries were reported.
