Some nonprofits in Lewis County are now eligible for low-interest federal disaster loans due to severe storms last winter. The events, spanning from Dec. 29 to Jan 16, included high winds, flooding, landslides and major power outages.
Earlier this month, the White House approved federal disaster assistance for the state due to the storm, which damaged several counties in Western Washington.
The loans now available to certain private nonprofits are through the U.S. Small Business Administration and could run up to $2 million to “repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets,” according to a press release from Lewis County.
Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the administration are also available to nonprofits that were impacted by the storm, regardless of whether those impacts were to property.
The loans have a 2% interest rate with terms up to 30 years. The deadline to apply is June 7 for property damage and Jan. 10 for general economic injury.
