Elwell Throws No-No In Five-Inning Win Over Cards

Giving up just one baserunner on a walk, the Rainier softball team was led by Bailey Elwell’s standout no-hitter in the pitchers circle in a 10-0 Monday win over Winlock at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

Elwell pitched all five innings and struck out 13 in the winning effort.

At the plate, the Mountaineers weren’t too shabby either, racking up 15 hits as a team. Alisha Adamski went 2 for 2 with a run scored, Olivia Earsley was 3 for 4 in the leadoff spot, and Keira Anderson added a 2 for 2 line with two runs scored and an RBI.

“There was a relaxed and confident atmosphere amongst the girls today,” Mountaineers coach Kyle Greenwood said. “They're really hitting their stride and that was translating into some absolutely crushing line drive hits. We were able to be aggressive and put the ball in play where it would be impossible to field. So then you're able to safely get on base, be aggressive around the bases, and be confident that your teammates going to come up behind you and hit you home.

“The girls got the win and were super clean in doing so when called upon. They just keep impressing us each and every game.”

For Winlock, Cali Geehan went all four innings with two strikeouts in the circle. Maia Cheney drew the lone walk for the Cards.

The Mountaineers will take on Toutle Lake and Kalama in a doubleheader Tuesday, while the Cardinals take on Toledo at home.
