Eagles Walk Off Over Wolves

The Black Hills softball team found itself on the wrong end of a wild season-opener, falling 13-12 in eight innings at Elma.

Tied 10-10 going into the seventh, Black Hills surged ahead with back-to-back home runs by Zoey Theophilus and Kailey Miller. In the bottom of the inning, though, the Wolves left the door open with two errors, and a double let Elma tie the game up.

After a scoreless top of the eighth, Elma put a runner on second with another error, got the runner to third on a dropped third strike, and squeezed her home to win.

Black Hills finished the afternoon with seven errors. Theophilus went the distance in the circle for the Wolves, giving up six hits, but only five of the 13 runs she surrendered were earned.

Theophilus also led the way at the plate, finishing a triple shy of the cycle in a 4-for-5 day, complete with three RBIs. Miller also had a double and a homer, and down the lineup card, Sam West also went 4 for 5.

As a team, Black Hills banged out 19 hits and put runs up in six of the eight frames.

The Wolves will head home to host Tenino on Thursday.
