The Dollar General at 721 N. Main St. in Pe Ell is now open.
To commemorate the opening of Dollar General’s new Pe Ell location, the company plans to donate 100 new books to the Pe Ell School to benefit students ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Through partnership with the Kellogg Company, the donation will be part of a planned donation of more than 100,000 books across the country, according to a news release from Dollar General.
The addition of the Pe Ell store opens the chance for schools, nonprofit organizations and libraries within a 15-mile radius of the store to apply for “Dollar General Literacy Foundation” grants, the release states.
Though it did not mention the fact that there are no libraries within that radius, that would mean the Pe Ell and Boistfort schools could apply. Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $197 million in grants.

The release states the store will employ six to 10 people. Currently, one job is listed for the Pe Ell location online, which is a store manager position. Interested candidates can review and apply for positions at careers.dollargeneral.com.
According to an email to The Chronicle from Dollar General, the Pe Ell location is the only Lewis County Dollar General location expected to open within this fiscal year.
