Daytime pavement repairs on southbound Interstate 5 in the Grand Mound area have been completed for the week, according to a news release from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
Maintenance crews opened all lanes of southbound I-5 at noon Tuesday, June 3.
Additional daytime lane closures on southbound I-5 near Grand Mound are planned in July to complete pavement repairs.
WSDOT maintenance crews plan to reduce another 2-mile section of southbound I-5 to one lane in Thurston County:
• 6 a.m. to noon, Monday, June 9, and Tuesday, June 10, approaching Exit 95 to Littlerock and Maytown.
Travelers who don’t change their plans could see miles-long backups on southbound I-5 approaching Maytown.
During the lane closures, crews will continue to fill gaps in the surface of the roadway.
WSDOT recommends planning ahead by:
• Rescheduling discretionary trips.
• Traveling before or after work hours.
• Adding an hour of extra travel time.
Crews need warm and dry conditions to perform the work. All work is weather dependent and could be rescheduled. The repairs will help reduce the rate of deterioration on the roadway, according to WSDOT.
