Snapping Naselle’s streak of four straight district championships, dating back to 2018, the Mossyrock baseball team ended the Comets reign Thursday in the 1B District 4 title game in a marathon 10-inning game, 4-3.
After taking a 3-0 lead, and allowing Naselle to crawl back into it and eventually tie it in the top of the seventh, the Vikings and Comets traded scoreless innings until the bottom of the 10th.
Keegan Kolb — who finished 3 for 5 on the day — got the action started with a leadoff single, and after Easton Kolb advanced on an error, the Vikings had a runner on first and second with no outs looking to win it.
A wild pitch advanced both runners, and Jacob Comer’s sac fly to right field was deep enough to score Keegan Kolb from third to walk-off winners for the Vikings.
Tim Bowes got the start on the mound for the Vikings and went 6 2/3 innings until he hit his pitch count, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks with 11 strikeouts. Cooper Young finished the game from the hill in extras, pitching 3 1/3 and allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
Bowes also went 3 for 4 with an RBI at the plate for Mossy.
The win means the Vikings clinch a berth to the state playoffs, while the Comets will have to play a glue game — or a state play-in game against another district — to get into the big dance.
