Still controlling its own destiny for at least a share of an Evergreen league title, the Tenino High School boys basketball team fell behind early and never fully recovered in a 64-58 stunner to Hoquiam on Tuesday night.
It puts the Beavers (7-12, 5-2 Evergreen) firmly in second place with one league game to go. They close the regular season against arch rival Rochester on Thursday night. And their five-game winning streak came to an end.
“We didn’t have energy all night,” Tenino head coach Ryan Robertson said. “We didn’t play as good team defense. Credit to them, they had a great game plan.”
A 10-point halftime deficit was washed away behind a barrage of 3-pointers – four of them off the hands of Will Feltus – to lead by three with one frame to go. Tenino went cold once again, just two made field goals in the final eight minutes.
Feltus led the way with 14 points while Austin Gonia and Preston Snider scored 13 points apiece and Jack Burkhardt chipped in 12.
