Boarding will begin soon for the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad and Museum’s two holiday trains: The Polar Express and the Santa Holiday Train.
Starting Saturday, Nov. 13, The Polar Express train will run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Departing from the depot at 1101 SW Sylvenus St. off of Exit 77, the “magical” story of The Polar Express will “come to life” for a one-hour round trip journey, according to a news release from the railroad.
Set to the soundtrack of “The Polar Express” movie, passengers will experience the story with hot chocolate, treats and a telling of the children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg.
Santa and his helpers greet passengers at the North Pole and then board the train, where each child is given the first gift of Christmas — a silver sleigh bell. Costumed dancers and chefs aboard each car will lead passengers in singing Christmas carols on the ride back to the depot.
The Polar Express train runs through Dec. 19 on select dates. Exact dates, fares and excursion times are available by visiting steamtrainride.com/the-polar-express-train.
Regular ticket prices for all ages are $39. Children age 2 and under ride free. Families are encouraged to wear warm clothes and bring blankets.
Starting Thanksgiving weekend, the traditional favorite Santa Holiday Train will return. This daytime ride option is available at 1 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 27 to Dec. 19. The ride with Santa is a 30-minute journey. The cost is $16 per person. Children age 2 and under ride free. Information and tickets are online at steamtrainride.com/santa-train-ride.
New this year, the railroad has added a Premier Class 1920s business car.
In addition to special souvenir and luxury seating, the areas in the parlor, dining room and berths are private and separated from other parties. Groups of eight, six or four can be accommodated.
