Centralia Man Jailed for Multiple Violent Offenses in 2021 Now Accused of Tampering With Witness; Bail Set at $500K

A Centralia man arrested last month for multiple alleged domestic violence offenses now faces 23 new charges after Lewis County Jail phone records revealed he repeatedly contacted one of the victims and allegedly told her to withdraw her statement.

The defendant, Telor Maclin, 29, has been in custody of the Lewis County Jail since Oct. 13.

Jail records indicate Maclin was initially arrested by the Centralia Police Department for several Centralia Municipal Court cases, one Lewis County District Court case and two felony cases: one from a June 2021 incident where he allegedly dragged a woman by her hair into a residence, and one from an August 2021 incident where he allegedly grabbed a different woman by the throat.

A Lewis County Superior Court judge entered no-contact orders protecting those two alleged victims at 4:10 p.m. on Oct. 14 during Maclin’s preliminary hearing for the two felony cases, where his bail was set at $150,000.

Approximately 18 minutes later, Maclin allegedly contacted the victim in the August 2021 case by phone from the jail, referring to her by a fake name and acknowledging the no-contact order, according to court documents.

After some back and forth conversation, the victim reportedly said “she knows what she needs to do, contact the police about withdrawing her statement and that she will do it tomorrow.”

In reply, Maclin allegedly “told her that she needs to do it today so he can get out of jail and that she needs to recant her statement and tell them he did not strangle her, burglarize her apartment, choke her and say he would kill her,” according to court documents.

A police officer reviewed the Lewis County Jail’s phone records and confirmed Maclin and the victim spoke on the phone 22 times between Oct. 14 and Oct. 24, according to court documents.

Maclin was charged Nov. 4 with one count of tampering with a witness, domestic violence, and 22 counts of violation of a court order, domestic violence.

Each charge is a class C felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Maclin had a preliminary appearance in Lewis County Superior Court for the new case on Nov. 4, where Judge Joely Yeager set bail at $500,000.

“These allegations presented in this new case check all the boxes of concerns that the court has,” she said, citing community safety and interference with the administration of justice as specific concerns.

Combined with the bails set in all of his other cases — not including the no-bail hold set in a Lewis County District Court case — Maclin would have to post $655,100 bail in order to be released.
