Centralia Hydrant Flushing to Begin April 5

Posted

Centralia Public Works Water Department employees will begin flushing fire hydrants on Monday, April 5, to remove sediment from the main water lines and introduce fresh water to dead-end lines.

The process will continue throughout the city for approximately three weeks.

As the flushing process requires water to be expelled in large quantities at a high velocity from the mains through fire hydrants, drivers and pedestrians in the Centralia area are asked to use caution when they observe water flowing from fire hydrants.

Households are advised to check their water supply by running a faucet before washing clothing or performing other water-using activities in order to keep turbid water from being used. “Customers may wish to conduct such activities before 7:30 a.m. and after 5:00 p.m. during these three weeks to avoid times when water might be cloudy,” the Centralia Public Works Department said in a press release.
