Centralia Enacts Recreational Fire Ban

As of Monday afternoon, the City of Centralia has enacted a ban on all outdoor recreational fires within city limits due to the persistent dry weather.

The decision was made in collaboration with the Riverside Fire Authority, and the declaration was approved by the Centralia City Council at a regular meeting Tuesday. It will remain in effect until the city rescinds it.

Liquid gas or propane stoves or fire bowls with on and off switches are permitted outside during this time. Both the city and fire authority are urging the public to be careful when using camp or gas stoves, barbecues or gas lanterns.

“Riverside Fire Authority, in coordination with the chiefs of local fire districts, strongly urges all residents and property owners to be attentive to the conditions of their properties through proactive fire prevention measures,” read a news release from the city.

The city will give public notice when it lifts the ban.

The city ban comes as Lewis County and the state of Washington also have burn bans in effect.
