Centralia Doubles Pair Finish as District Runner-Ups

After two wins to start the district tournament, the Centralia girls tennis doubles team of Elizabeth Hopkins and Maddie Corwin had already locked up a state berth, but were playing with house money against Columbia River’s top duo Friday.

While the Tigers fell, 6-2, 6-2 in the district title match, they still get to move on to play at the state tournament at the Nordstrom Center on the University of Washington campus next weekend.

The only other doubles team to earn a bid from the 2A Evergreen league were the Moore sisters of Black Hills.

Elsewhere, W.F. West’s Claire Kuykendall fell in a tight loser-out match Friday to end her season after running through league play unscathed.

The girls and boys state tennis tournaments for 2A will take place starting next Friday in Seattle.
