Fifteen students from Centralia Christian School’s eighth grade class visited the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., last week as part of a week-long trip that included a brief visit with U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Skamania.
During the run-in with the representative for Washington’s Third Congressional District, students got a chance to talk about their futures.
“Thanks to the students of Centralia Christian School for visiting the Capitol last week!” Gluesenkamp Perez wrote in a Facebook post this week. “We got to talk about their aspirations — whether it’s running a family farm or forest, driving freight trains or working in law enforcement.”
During the eight-day trip, the group toured historical sites across Virginia and the Washington, D.C., metro area including visits to Geroge Washington’s residence at Mount Vernon, Thomas Jefferson's home at Monticello, Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, the Yorktown Battlefield and more.
Two students from the group participated in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as part of their visit to Arlington National Cemetery.
The group also visited the National Mall, including a tour of the U.S. Capitol Building, visits to the Library of Congress and the White House, and stops at many of the monuments and memorials throughout Washington, D.C.
