Beginning and ending the weekend series with wins, the Centralia College baseball team earned a split in its first conference series of the season against Pierce, going 2-2 over the weekend.

In Game 1, a 6-4 win, Casen Taggart continued his hot start to the season, crushing a home run that scored two runs and capped a three-run seventh for the home team. On the hill, Justin Morgan had a strong start, going 7 2/3 innings with just two earned runs tacked against him with 10 strikeouts and a walk.

The Blazers dropped Game 2, 4-1, in seven innings after allowing three runs in the third in a mostly defensive contest. Taggart again starred with the only extra-bases hit of the game, smacking a double.

Game 3 resumed the series on Sunday in Pierce County, as the Blazers dropped the first game of the day 7-2, but the Blazers battled back to take the final game, 1-0, scoring a run in the 10th of an extra innings game.

Ryan Henrickson pitched a game, going all 10 innings with just seven hits allowed, no runs, one walk, with six punchouts.

Logan Keller advanced on an error in the 10th to score the winning run. Taggart went 2 for 3 at the plate with a walk, and River Terry scored the winning run.

“I’m really pleased with where we are at after opening weekend of league play,” CC coach Ben Harley said. “Many guys stepped up this weekend for us. Justin Morgan and Ryan Henrickson put together great starts in our two wins. He is a third year guy in our program who has worked his tail off to get to where he is at now. We had some really clean defense overall this weekend with some big plays by Tyler Harries and Jorge Camarena.”

The Blazers (16-10, 2-2 NWAC West) take on Grays Harbor Thursday and Saturday at home for their next contests.
