Cardinals Can’t Keep Up With Mules in Home Loss

Despite some nice offensive production, the Winlock boys basketball team had a hard time stopping anything Wahkiakum wanted to do in a 90-55 loss Tuesday night at home.

The Cardinals were led by solid efforts from senior Payton Sickles and eighth-grader Landon Cline, with Sickles totaling 18 points and Cline nearly dropping a double-double with 14 points and seven assists, but it wasn’t enough to stop a Mule onslaught.

Brodie Avalon scored a game-high 43 points, and Zakk Carlson added 19 on a night pretty much everything went right for the Mules.

“Wahkiakum just couldn’t miss tonight,” Cardinals coach Cole Doughty said. “Seemed like everything they shot went in. When they’re shooting like that they can score in a hurry and tonight was one of those nights you just hate to tip your cap. For Winlock I thought we made some improvements offensively.”

The Cardinals play Toutle Lake on the road Thursday for their next contest.
