Citing improved weather conditions, Lewis County eased some fire restrictions this week. Recreational campfires and solid fuel barbecues are now allowed, although open burning — even with permits — is still prohibited.
Campfires must be limited to 3 feet in diameter with an 8-inch-tall ring barrier and 2-foot-wide buffer of exposed soil. A 10-foot horizontal buffer and 20-foot vertical buffer must be cleared of flammable materials; the fire must be attended by someone older than 16 able to extinguish it with a shovel and 5-gallon bucket or charged hose; and fires must be completely extinguished.
Self-contained camp stoves are encouraged as an alternative to campfires.
