Callisons donates funds for new ‘Mint City’ W.F. West baseball uniforms

The W.F. West High School baseball team unveiled its new “Mint City” uniforms in its first game on the newly turfed field at Bearcat Stadium March 25.

Callisons, a global supplier of mint for over a century, donated $3,830.28 to the program upon request by the coaching staff for the new uniforms, according to Heather Alejandro, Callisons facilities manager and charitable coordinator.

“Something that Callisons really likes to do is we like to support kids and families, specifically with something like a uniform because it’s such a large expense,” Alejandro told The Chronicle. “If they’re not able to raise the funds, it falls to the students and their parents, and not all parents are able to just write a check. This is a way for us to help the community with things that aren’t always equitable. This donation makes it equitable, and that means this burden is no longer going to fall on those families.”

Callisons, founded in 1903 by I.P. Callison, has donated to other local sports teams, children’s activities and the Discover! Children’s Museum. W.F. West High School is just two miles away from Callisons, which produces a minty scent near its location on 799 N. National Ave. in Chehalis, resulting in the “Mint City” moniker.
