Brewer’s Record-Setting Night Leads T-Birds Over Hilanders

Luke Brewer opened his senior season with 34 points — a few of which were themselves a bit historic — as the Tumwater boys basketball team got its winter rolling with a 70-50 win over 3A Kelso in Cowlitz County.

Brewer hit two 3-pointers in the second quarter to reach 112 in his career, breaking the program record, set by CJ Geather in 2018. The senior went on to hit four more on the night, finishing the evening 6 for 9 from beyond the arc and 12 for 20 from the field.

Fellow senior Andrew Collins was the only Thunderbird to finish the night in double figures, logging 15 points on 6 of 11 shooting. He came down with seven rebounds and Brewer had six, but it was Gunnar Harroun who led Tumwater on the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds and finishing two points shy of a double-double. Harroun also logged three blocks, while Collins put up a team-high four assists and three steals.

Tumwater started off the night ice cold from beyond the arc, grinding out to a 12-12 tie after eight minutes. But as Brewer started to find his stroke, the offense opened up, with the T-Birds putting up 22 points in the second quarter and 21 in the third, while holding the Hilanders under 15 in all four periods.

The Thunderbirds (1-0) will get right into 2A EvCo play Tuesday, taking on Shelton on the road.
