James Grose scored a game-high 19 points and hauled in six rebounds, and Keith Olson added 17 points and 13 rebounds as Napavine shellacked visiting Rainier, 58-32, on Tuesday.
The Tigers used staunch defense to hold the Mountaineers to single-digit scoring in the final three quarters to run away with the victory.
“Overall, defensively, we were pretty sound all night,” Napavine coach Rex Stanley said. “Our defense and rebounding, every game, has been solid.”
Junior Gavin Parker added 10 points for the Tigers, while Cael Stanley added seven and Laythan Demarest chipped in six.
“We’ve been having different guys every night stepping up,” Rex Stanley said. “It just varies. Olson is always good for a double-double.”
Rainier was led by Ian Sprouffske and Curtis Keller, who each scored 10 points. Brody Landram added eight and Jake Jeske scored three.
Napavine improves to 4-0 and travels to Onalaska on Thursday. Rainier falls to 2-3 overall and hosts Toutle Lake on Thursday.
Chase Collins poured in a game-high 24 points and dished out five assists as Adna took a 71-53 victory over visiting Morton-White Pass to remain undefeated on the year Tuesday.
Freshman Braeden Salme added 14 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists, while senior Zach Berg scored 12 points and pulled down four rebounds. Senior Tyler Minkoff added four points, four rebounds and three assists.
“Chase was great, offensively,” Adna coach Luke Salme said. “And Zach and Aaron brought physicality at the defensive end, and rebounding that we needed to put them away in the second half.”
MWP was led by Layten Collette’s 11 points, while Gary Dotson added 10 points. Tyler Blake, Kysen Collette and Carter Dantinne each scored eight points.
“MWP plays so hard and scrappy, so we are thrilled with this win,” Salme said.
Adna improves to 3-0 and travels to Stevenson for a 6 p.m. match on Thursday. MWP drops to 1-4 overall and hosts Toledo at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Nolan Swofford and Landon Tiemens each scored 13 points and the Winlock Cardinals bested the Stevenson Bulldogs 50-40 at home on Tuesday in a Central 2B League boys basketball game.
Joe Welch added 11 points in the Cardinals’ win.
Winlock grabbed a total of 38 rebounds, and half were on the offensive end, helping the Cardinals lead from wire to wire, though they shot just 7-of-15 from the foul line.
Winlock (2-2, 2-1) visits Wahkiakum next Monday at 7 p.m.
Toledo scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to pull off a 59-49 comeback win over visiting Onalaska on Tuesday.
The Indians overcame a lackluster first half where they scored just 16 points to trail the Loggers by eight at the break, due to a combination of defensive breakdowns, miscommunication and going through growing pains, Toledo coach Grady Fallon said.
“When you’re down at the half, it’s a long game,” Fallon said. “You’ve just got to cut the deficit in half the third quarter then cut it in half again the fourth quarter.”
The Indians took their first lead of the game with three minutes to go in the fourth on Jake Cournyer’s 3-pointer, which started a long-range barrage. Jesse Towns then hit a trey and Fredy Fernandez added two more.
Fernandez led all scorers with 17 points and grabbed four rebounds. Senior Carlo Arceo-Hansen added 10 points and a team-high five rebounds and four steals for the Indians. Jesse Towns chipped in nine points, while freshman Jake Cournyer tallied seven points, four assists and three steals. Carson Gould and Carson Olmstead each added six points.
“I was pretty happy to get out with a win,” Fallon said.
Onalaska was led by senior point guard Danny Dalsted’s 14 points. Junior Mason Ulery scored 10 points and Alex Pannkuk added nine.
Toledo improves to 3-1 and travels to Randle on Thursday to play Morton-White Pass. Onalaska falls to 0-3 and hosts Napavine on Thursday.
Jackson Lusk scored 20 points, Joey McCalden added 16 and Wyatt Marrs pitched in with 10 as the Pe Ell Trojans threw out a tough first quarter and roared back for a 59-36 win at home over Firm Foundation on Tuesday.
Lusk, who also had seven rebounds, and McCalden, who added five steals, each scored 10 second-quarter points, which the Trojans won 26-10 after falling behind 15-7 after the initial period.
“We kind of got off to a rough start in terms of making mistakes, then started getting open looks,” Pe Ell coach Clayburn Lusk said.
Pe Ell (3-2) hosts Mossyrock on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Oakville had four players score in double digits as the Acorns handed Wishkah Valley a 77-15 drubbing on the road Tuesday.
Freshman Hunter Russell led all scorers with 17 points and grabbed two rebounds. Sophomore Haezen Cayenne added 14 points, seven assists and four rebounds, while freshman Courtney Prive scored 12 points and had a game-high nine boards. Freshman Eddie Klatush chipped in 10 points.
“It was a pretty good game,” Oakville coach Kyle Burkhardt said.
The Acorns were coming off a tight, 44-43, loss to league rival Mary M. Knight in the season opener on Saturday.
Oakville (1-1) travels to Lake Quinault on Thursday and hosts North River on Saturday.
Eighth-grader Easton Kolb and freshman Zack Munos each busted off a game-high 19 points as Mossyrock took care of business in a 66-26 victory over Washington School for the Deaf at home on Tuesday.
Kolb added nine rebounds to his offensive performance and Munoz had five rebounds and five assists, with all his stats coming in just two quarters of play.
The Vikings played two full-time varsity kids in the game and the rest were swing and junior varsity players.
“Our young guys played well and the JV kids got some good experience on the varsity squad,” Mossyrock coach Adam Deck said. “I really thought their squad moved the ball well. They have a couple of young guys that could be really good in the coming years.”
Mossyrock improves to 3-2 and has a big rivalry game at Pe Ell on Thursday.
