A 13-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle while skateboarding in Centralia on Friday night, according to the Centralia Police Department.

The boy has since been identified by friends and family on social media as Dakota Tubbs, of Centralia.

Officers responded to a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian at about 11:15 p.m. on Friday, May 2, in the 700 block of Harrison Avenue in Centralia.

“Witnesses on the scene reported a juvenile male was on his skateboard in the roadway when a vehicle collided with him,” the department stated in a news release. “When officers arrived, the juvenile was unresponsive. Riverside Fire Authority and AMR responded to the scene and began life-saving measures. The juvenile was transported to Providence Hospital where a life flight was waiting. The juvenile was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.”

The Washington State Patrol responded to assist Centralia police with the investigation.

No additional information was released.

As of Monday morning, a GoFundMe started by Dakota’s family to cover his funeral costs had raised $11,835 of its $15,000 goal.

“We know nothing can take away the pain of this loss, but we hope this small effort can help remove some of the pressure during an already unimaginably difficult time,” Dakota’s aunt, Courtney Stewart, stated in the fundraiser description. “Any donation, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated and will go directly toward supporting the family through this period of mourning.”
