Blazers Take Doubleheader Over Chokers

Posted

Four Centralia College pitchers combined to hold Grays Harbor to one run in 16 innings across two games, as the Blazers swept the Chokers in a doubleheader 8-1 and 3-0 in seven innings.

Grays Harbor got the scoring started in Game 1 with a run off of Hunter Stewart in the second inning, but from there the Blazers got stingy, keeping their guests — who were designated as the home team in both games — off the scoreboard again.

Stewart finished with just one hit allowed in 4 ⅓ innings of work, though ran into a bit of trouble in the fifth inning with control, as the rain started to come down harder. Camdyn Martindale got the Blazers out of the frame and went on to throw three more in long relief, earning the win, and Garrett Hames worked around two walks in a scoreless ninth.

In Game 2, Ian Bauer took things the whole — shortened — way, striking out eight and only allowing three hits and a walk in a seven-inning shutout.

River Terry went 3 for 4 at the plate in the first game, finishing a triple shy of the cycle, driving in a run and scoring another. The Blazers responded to the Chokers’ run with a three-spot in the third, another run in the fourth — on a Terry homer — and four more in the fifth.

Centralia got all the scoring it would need in Game 2 in a three-run fourth inning. Tyler Harries hit an RBI single to score Logan Keller, and the Chokers brought two more runs in in helpful fashion with three straight walks and a hit batter.

Tony Groninger came away with an RBI in both games, as did Terry and Tyler Harries.

The Blazers are set to take on the Chokers in another doubleheader Saturday, also in the Hub City, though this time, CC will get to be the home team.
