Centralia College softball was shelled, 19-1, in Game 1 and and rebounded for a 9-1 victory in Game 2 to split a home doubleheader with Lower Columbia in South Region action on Friday.
In Game 1, LCC’s Jade Behic no-hit the Trailblazers while striking out four with one walk in five innings.
“We had a rough time on defense with multiple errors and walks,” Centralia College coach Payton Pocklington said. “(Behic) did a very good job keeping us off time. She threw a great game. We had a hard time adjusting to her off-speed and they got the best of us.”
Napavine alum Ada Williams was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs for LCC. Pe Ell-Willapa Valley alum Katelyn McGough was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs, while PWV alum Katie Adkins was 1 for 3 with two runs.
Sophie Duffy had the lone walk for CC, and tossed 2 ⅔ innings of relief, surrendering 11 runs on one walk and 14 hits with no strikeouts. Kiyah Kennedy started in the circle, going 2 ⅓ innings while allowing six earned runs on five hits and four walks.
In Game 2, the Trailblazers rebounded by out-hitting the Red Devils 13-2 to complete a 9-1 victory in five innings.
Nikole Schock led the Blazers at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs. Kylie Baker was 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI, while Sydney Yates was 2 for 2 with three RBIs and a run. Schock and Yates each hit home runs.
“Huge shoutout to Nikole and Sydney for their solid home runs,” Pocklington said. “All-around, we played very good defense and continued to hit the ball and score every inning. We played out game and played very well. It was a good turnaround after the first game.”
Paige Bryant tossed all five innings to earn the win for the Blazers, allowing zero earned runs with two hits and seven walks.
“I am so proud of how well Paige threw,” Pocklington said. “She did an incredible job keeping them on their toes.”
McGough (1 for 3) and Taylor Avram had LCC’s lone hits, while McGough scored the only run.
Centralia College (11-17, 9-10 South Region) next heads to Mount Hood for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
