Blazers Drop Two in Lacey

The Centralia College softball team had a tough time keeping its foes off the bases and the board Saturday to open play at the NWAC Inter-Region weekend in Lacey, before rain kept the Blazers off the field Sunday.

The Blazers fell 8-1 in their first game to Everett College on Saturday, before coming back and losing 16-0 to Bellevue College in five innings.

The Trojans opened the first game up with a three-spot in the bottom of the first, and led 4-0 before Centralia cashed in on a Kylie Baker RBI for its only run of the day in the top of the third.

The game against Bellevue got uglier quicker, with the Bulldogs — who sit atop the NWAC North Division standings early in the second — putting up four straight crooked numbers before scoring once more in the fifth for good measure.

Four Centralia errors helped Bellevue; five of the Bulldogs’ 16 runs were unearned.

Centralia was set to take on Spokane and Wenatchee Valley — two squads with records closer to .500 to start the season — but saw those games canceled due to rain.

The Blazers will return home Friday for a doubleheader against Clark College, before going westward to play another twin bill at Grays Harbor on Saturday.
