The Centralia College men’s basketball team proved up to the task of overcoming an early deficit and let Grays Harbor make like its mascot, as the Blazers came back to win 75-71 at home Wednesday night.

The Blazers’ bench put in 49 points to outscore the starters, with Raymond Guillory scoring 16 points to lead the way, Juelz Mendoza adding 14, and Adrian Brown dropping 12. Wendell Davis Jr. was the lone Centralia starter to finish in double figures with 13.

Centralia spotted its guests a large lead right out of the gate, coming up empty from the field for nearly nine minutes to fall behind 17-1. With six minutes to go to halftime, the Blazers began the rally, trimming a 17-point deficit down to eight by the time the buzzer sounded for the break.

The Chokers got the lead back to 10 early in the second, but the Blazers took control, ripping off a 19-2 run over the course of five minutes to take the lead and immediately give themselves a cushion. Centralia led by as many as 11 at one point, and never trailed again.

All told, Centralia doubled its first-half total in the second, going from 25 points on 26.5% shooting to 50 points at a 54.3% clip.

The Blazers will get back on the road this weekend, playing at South Puget Sound on Saturday.
