The Black Hills football team earned itself a win it needed to keep its postseason hopes alive Friday, hanging on to beat Shelton 38-34.

The Wolves fended off a Shelton run in the third quarter and stretched their lead to 38-21 midway through the fourth, before the Highclimbers scored twice to make things just a bit interesting for the crowd at Tumwater District Stadium.

Johnnie Stallings starred for Black Hills, taking 37 rushes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw for the Wolves’ first touchdown, hitting Tanner Parkinson on a 13-yard trick play in the second quarter.

The Wolves went back into their bag of tricks in the second half on a two-point conversion play, with Xander Shepler hitting Stallings on a wide-receiver pass.

Stallings also hauled in three catches for a team-high 84 yards, with Maddox Hodge catching four passes for 44 and Parkinson adding three for 50.

Quarterback Jaxsen Beck went 12 for 20 for 195 yards and a touchdown, with no interceptions.

Black Hills (5-2, 3-2 2A EvCo) will face off against Tumwater in the Pioneer Bowl next Friday to wrap up its regular season.
