The Tenino volleyball team earned its first win of the season in sweeping fashion Tuesday, taking down Toledo 25-20, 25-17, 25-15.

“The girls are starting to come together and realize their true potential,” coach Shauna Carpenter said. “The setters moved the ball well tonight, making sure to spread out our attacks.”

Sophomore Brianna Asay posted three kills and earned 10 service points to lead the Beavers, who found their groove as the night went on, with each set being less close than the set before.

“We decided to play to win tonight and it showed,” Carpenter said. “Confidence and mental strength was big tonight.”

Shyann Barratt dished out 10 assists for the Riverhawks who were down four starters, while Karely Plancarte had five digs at the right pin.

“I was very happy with them,” Toledo head coach Kelli Larson said. “They weren’t all young, but definitely lacked experience.”

Toledo (0-3) will face Eatonville on Wednesday, while Tenino (1-1) will play at Centralia.
