Beavers Put Up Offensive Showcase in Season Opener

Tenino had three players score in double digits as the Beavers used a potent offensive night to put away visiting Rochester 63-29 in the annual Scatter Creek Showdown at home on Thursday.

Central Washington University-commit Ashley Schow pumped in a game-high 19 points to spearhead the Beavers’ attack. Rim protector Alivia Hunter added 11 points and senior Abby Severse added 10 points.

“We played pretty good,” Tenino coach Scott Ashmore said. “We came out fast and hit shots. My six seniors and one junior post put in a lot of work in the offseason. It was nice to see it pay off for them.”

After Schow scored 10 of the Beavers’ 20 points in the first quarter, they had a small letdown in the second quarter as they began getting in foul trouble in their man-to-man defense. A switch to zone in the third and fourth quarters helped them settle down a bit.

“We started getting out running and pushing the tempo,” Ashmore said.

The Beavers scored in double digits in all four quarters. Grace Vestal and Megan Letts each added nine points for Tenino.

Rochester was led by sophomore post Delany Winter’s 13 points, while Roisin Stull scored four and Grace Hoover had three.

Tenino (1-0) hosts Rainier on Tuesday. Rochester hosts Tumwater on Tuesday.
