Beavers Cruise Past Cruisers

Alivia Hunter recorded a brace, Kamryn Oliviera continued her recent success scoring, and the Tenino Beavers are rolling again.

After dropping their first two games of the season, both league contests back-to-back against Montesano and Elma, the Beavers (9-2, 2-2 league) have turned it around, picking up their second league win in a row against Eatonville 3-0 Tuesday night.

Hunter got the scoring going off a set piece in the eighth minute, heading in a perfect corner from senior midfielder Megan Letts. After a scoreless rest of the first half, Oliviera doubled Tenino’s lead in the 45th minute on an unassisted goal, and Hunter scored again in the 69th minute off another corner from Letts.

“We wanted to take advantage of set piece opportunities,” Beavers coach Kevin Schultz said. “We were happy to score on a couple of corners.”

Down a couple of starters, some new faces stepped up for Tenino ahead of its big matchup against Montesano on Thursday. Starting for the first time this season, Trista Shoop filled in well, said Schultz, who commended her energy and play.

Keeper Trinity Tafoya had four saves, all from outside the box, as the Cruisers didn’t attempt a single shot from the box.

The Beavers will look to beat Montesano in their rematch after dropping the first contest a few weeks ago.
