Beavers Can’t Overcome Early Deficit Against Bulldogs

Just a day removed from handing Montesano its first league losses in over half a decade, the Tenino baseball team couldn’t repeat the feat in an 11-4 loss on the road Wednesday night.

The loss means the Beavers will finish as the 1A Evergreen’s second seed, and will play the Trico’s No. 3 seed at Hoquiam High School next Monday at 4 p.m.

In Wednesday’s game, the Beavers gave up nine runs in the bottom of the first inning, and couldn’t recover.

“Came out flat today,” Beavers coach Ryan Schlesser said. “Monte came out ready for us and played well.”

Jack Burkhardt got the start on the mound for the Beavers, and went just ⅔ of an inning, giving up seven runs, with just three of them earned, on three hits with two walks. Mikey Vasser pitched the following 3 ⅓ innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

At the plate, Easton Snider picked up an RBI, and Austin Gonia went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.

The Beavers had just seven hits as a team and two errors, compared to Monte’s nine hits and one error.
