The W.F. West wrestling team took home a trophy Thursday in Pierce County, coming home with first place overall at the Winter Solstice tournament hosted by Curtis High School.

The Bearcats earned 291 points as a team, with Curtis coming in second 60 points behind them, and Enumclaw and Tumwater rounding out third and fourth, respectively.

“It was a pretty good showing,” W.F. West coach Jamie Rakevich said. “We’re finally getting the rust knocked off a bit from coming in late from football.”

Five of those football players took home first-place finishes. Cristo Parriot won the 145-pound division, Blake Ely won at 152, Tucker Land won at 182, Andrew Penland came in first at 220, and Daniel Matagi won at 285.

Behind them, Mason McGregor (106), Rafael Mendez (126), Cage Homan (170), Waylon Land (182), and Angelo Peters (195) all finished as runners-up in their respective divisions.

W.F. West will get back to the mat next Thursday in Clark County, at a mass gathering hosted by Hudson’s Bay.
