It was a clean sweep for the W.F. West boys tennis team on Wednesday, as the Bearcats topped Shelton 6-0.

No. 2 singles Braden Newman and No. 3 singles Sawyer Cothern swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0, but top singles player Will Cummings had to go three to win his match 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

“He really battled,” W.F. West coach Megan Wellander said of Cummings. “That’s a big win for him. I’m proud of his patience and corrections on the court, as well as the way he finished a lot of really good points.”

It was mostly smooth sailing for the three doubles teams as well, as Jayvn Han and Bryce Kuyendall won their match 6-0, 6-0, Andre Tseng and Jaxon Velazquez won 6-0, 6-2, and Jonah Ames and Ryan Becker won their match 6-1, 6-0.

“All of the doubles worked hard,” Wellander said. “There was lots of finishing at the net when given the opportunity. Everyone looked really nice today.”

The Bearcats (4-1) will hit the road on Tuesday, when they’ll travel north to take on Tumwater.
