Playing for the second to last time in the friendly confines of its own gym, the W.F. West volleyball team swept Aberdeen, 25-13, 25-16, 25-13, Tuesday night.

The Bearcats had strong performances across the board, finishing with 18 aces as a team.

“It was a good night for us,” Bearcats coach Robert Lucas said. “We were able to play everybody, that was a big bonus.”

Ava Olsen led the way with 11 kills and four blocks, but Morgan Rogerson and Amelia Etue weren’t far behind with seven and five kills, respectively, in three sets.

Lucas complimented the play of reserve senior defensive specialist Nora Lanej, who came in the second and third sets and provided a new energy to keep the momentum in favor of the Bearcats in a dominant performance.

W.F. West (5-6, 4-4 league) will play its last road game of the regular season on the road against Shelton Thursday, which will be a pivotal match for the district tournament starting Nov. 11. The winner will take the coveted third seed in the 2A Evergreen Conference standings, while the loser falls to fourth with just one game left to play afterwards.

That match will get started at 7 p.m. in Shelton.
