Bearcats Suffocate Highclimbers to Open League

W.F. West’s unbeaten league streak, which dates back to February of 2020, is still alive after opening its current league season against Shelton with a 66-10 victory Tuesday.

The Bearcats (3-1, 1-0 league) got off running early, building a 22-2 lead before backing off from their vaunted full-court press defense, and never looked back in the win in what was also their home opener in front of a packed crowd.

“We set the tone early,” Bearcats coach Kyle Karnofski said. “We wanted to dictate the tempo tonight in front of a good crowd and great atmosphere.”

Karnofski praised the efforts of senior leaders Drea Brumfield and Kyla McCallum, who he said shared the ball really well. The seniors also showed great leadership when younger players filled in to play down the stretch.

Brumfield led the Bearcats with 11 points, while Lexie Roberts and Olivia Remund each added 10.

W.F. West will take on Aberdeen next at home on Tuesday looking to continue its league streak.
