W.F. West posted three double-digits scorers and the Bearcats cruised past Aberdeen, 60-45, in 2A Evergreen Conference action on Saturday.

Senior Carter McCoy led with a team-high 16 points, nine rebounds, four steals and four assists.

Junior Dirk Plakinger added 15 points and senior two-guard Gabe Cuestas knocked in 14 points with five rebounds and was 3-for-3 from long range.

It was a redemption win for the Bearcats, who were coming off a 64-44 loss to Mark Morris, their only defeat of the season.

“Really happy with it,” W.F. West coach Chris White said. “We’re trying to find our identity and the kids were frustrated at practice after losing to Mark Morris.”

The Bearcats took their frustration out on Aberdeen, as McCoy and Plakinger threw down a few big dunks, including an alley-oop off the backboard from Cade Haller to McCoy that brought broth an eruption of cheers from the crowd.

“I wanted to get Dirk and Carter going and they were aggressive,” White said.

White praised Cuestas for finding spacing on 3-pointers and bulldog defense.

Also scoring for the Bearcats were Cade Haller with seven points, five rebounds and three steals, Whalen Deskins with five points and eight rebounds, Soren Dalan had two points and Austin Snyder hit a free throw.

But it was the Bearcats’ defense that White was most impressed with.

“Our defensive energy was a lot better,” White said. “We were keeping guys in front of us. It was a great effort.”

W.F. West (2-1) travels to the Hub City on Monday to face Centralia in the Swamp Cup.
