Falling for the first time as a team this spring, the W.F. West girls golf team battled through some tough conditions and finished with strong scores, but fell to Aberdeen at Alderbrook Golf Course, 117-107.

The Shelton girls golf team also competed and finished with 35 points.

The match medalist came from Aberdeen, as one of the region’s best golfers in Britt Rajcich shot one-over par and finished with 35 points under the Stableford scoring format.

Right behind her was W.F. West’s Natalie Eklund, who carded a 42 for 30 points. The Bearcats’ other scorers were Kendall Rasmussen (19 points), Abby Alexander (18 points), Grace Oien (19 points), and Macee Shannon (21 points). Madysen Alexander also finished with 15 points to round out the Bearcat varsity golfers.

“I really feel like the Bearcat golfers are making great progress towards our ultimate goal of pursuing a league championship and competing well in districts to send as many girls to state as possible,” Bearcats coach Matt Klovdahl said.

The Bearcats return to the greens next Monday at Alderbrook again for the Sibley Invitational, an 18-hole tournament in which girls get to play a two-player scramble in prep for league championships on the horizon.
